Hello, I'm Rafael Marte, a professional tattoo artist based and licensed in New York since 2005. I specialize in realistic and illustrative tattoos in both color and black and grey. Floral tattoos, skull imagery are and custom lettering with a focus on script style has always been at the center of my work. I enjoy tattooing detailed images with a strong focus on design longevity so your new tattoo looks great for a lifetime.
I always strive to create unique looking tattoos that have not been seen before. For this reason, I do not copy tattoos done by other artists. I will use reference images you provide as a starting point for new projects but will always draw my version of what you request. This will ensure your project will be a unique work of art.

Derm Shield healing for your new tattoo
I offer "Derm Shield" by www.RecoveryAfterCare.com for the healing of your new tattoos done by me at no additional cost. Recovery Derm Shield is a light, waterproof composite film bandage comprised of three layers: EVA film, matte PU film, and glassine. The matte PU film, which is the part of the bandage that remains on and protects the skin after tattooing, allows for optimal breathability and ductility when compared to glossy film bandages. This product does not conatin Latex.
Gently take off the Derm Shield I applied to your new tattoo after 24 I hours.
Wash the tattoo gently in the shower with an unscented antibacterial soap . I recommend any unscented liquid antibacterial soap. **Liquid or foam soaps that come in pump containers are best. Avoid Bar soaps because they can harbor bacteria.
Let the water Gently rinse off your tattoo.
Gently Dab the tattoo dry with a clean paper towel then dispose of them in the trash.
Wait about 5-10 minutes for your skin to air dry.
DO NOT USE ANY LOTIONS OINTMENTS OR CREAMS BEFORE APPLYING THE NEW FILM.
Apply another piece of Derm Shield on your tattoo and make sure there are no air bubbles trapped under the film. If you have an air bubble, push it to the edge of the film to get rid of it . ***If someone can do this for you, that’s the best option. I can remove the first sheet, clean your tattoo , and apply a second sheet of Derm Shield for you at no extra cost. We just have to schedule a time for you to come in the day after your new tattoo is done.****
Wear the second sheet of Derm Shield for 3 days. The film is waterproof so you can shower with it . *** Don’t scrub around the edges of the film so it stays on as best as possible ****
Gently remove the Derm Shield yourself after the 3rd day of wearing it and discard it in the trash. Wash your new tattoo with unscented antibacterial soap and water, then pat your skin dry with clean paper towels and throw them away in the trash. Wait for the skin to air dry fro about 5 minutes, then
apply a thin layer of a non scented body lotion like LUBRIDERM or CETAPHIL to moisturize the skin on your tattoo. USE THE LOTION TWICE A DAY FOR A WEEK after taking off the Derm Shield.
DO NOT SUBMERGE YOUR NEW TATTOO UNDERWATER for 3-4 WEEKS . Also avoid prolonged sun exposure like tanning as much as possible for the first month. If your tattoo gets itchy, slap it but don’t scratch it with your nails.
After your tattoo is fully healed (around 30 days after the tattoo was done) you don’t need to follow these instructions.

Traditional Healing is always an option if this is what you feel most comfortable with.
***You CANNOT submerge your new tattoo underwater for a minimum of 3 weeks after getting tattooed. No swimming in pool, beaches, rivers, or entering saunas is crucial to adhere to for safe healing if your new tattoo. Also, No Tanning is allowed for minimum of three weeks to a month prior to getting tattooed. *** If you are planning a trip or vacation to a warm sunny area where you plan to take part in any of the activities mentioned before, I would recommend to get tattooed after your trip to ensure. proper heal of your new tattoo. ***
HOW TO HEAL YOUR NEW TATTOO THE OLD FASHIONED WAY:
- 1- Wash your hands with unscented antibacterial soap. (Pump or Foam Soap is recommended)
- 2- Gently remove the bandage covering your new tattoo after wearing it for about 3 hours . Then wash your new tattoo with unscented antibacterial soap. *DONOT WRAP UP YOUR NEW TATTOO AGAIN AFTER THIS POINT*
- 3- Gently rinse all the soap and residue off your tattoo with warm or cool water (whichever you prefer).
- 4- Gently pat dry your new tattoo with some clean paper towels, then dispose of them in the garbage.
- 5- Let your tattoo air dry for 5-10 minutes.
- 6- Gently apply a THIN layer or an UNSCENTED moisturizing lotion (I recommend LUBRIDERM or CETAPHIL brand). Any brand is fine to use as long as the lotion is unscented. ***DO NOT use ointments like Vitamin A+D Ointment or VASELINE***
- 7-Repeat steps 1-6 twice a day for the first week after getting your new tattoo.
- 8- After one week, continue this care once daily indefinitely. The idea is if your skin is clean and moisturized, your tattoo will be as well.
- 9-Lotion your tattoo on a regular basis. Once a day after the shower is great! 3-5 times a week at minimum to keep your skin and tattoo looking fresh.
- 10-Keep your tattoo away from prolonged sun exposure to keep the ink from fading.If you work outdoors or tan frequently, wear sun block or cover your tattoo with your clothing.
***The reason I recommend not using ointments is because clients tend to overuse them. If anointment is to be used, it should only be an extremely thin layer twice a day for only 2-3 days max after getting your new tattoo. I would only recommend to use AQUAPHORE HEALING OINTMENT.***
